Practice Profile
Sorrento Medical Centre was established by Dr Peter Meggyesy in December 1988 in the
present historic limestone cottage in the main street of Sorrento as a small solo general
practice. In 2002 as a response to a shortage of GPs in Sorrento a program of expansion was
undertaken and the at that time the clinic doubled in size, adding a second GP, Dr Adrian
Murrie and a suite of allied health and specialist practitioners. In response to ever increasing
demand for medical services the practice has responded with a further expansion of the clinic
and addition of a further two doctors in 2010. We are proud to be the leading general practice
on the southern peninsula.
Sorrento Medical is dedicated to providing quality comprehensive medical care to the
residents of the southern Mornington Peninsula. The practice is fully accredited with GPA
and all of the GPs are vocationally registered with ongoing commitment to continuing
medical education. Fully qualified nursing and receptionist staff regularly complete further
education and training.

Fees
Sorrento Medical is a privately billing practice. The fee for a standard consultation is $68 and
payment is required at time of consultation. The practice accepts cash, cheque, credit card
and EFTPOS. We are unable to bulk bill and there is no discount for card holders. Veterans
will be direct billed to the Department of Veteran Affairs. Childhood immunisations are bulk
billed and performed by Fiona Murrie. Any procedures attract a gap fee of $50 which is to
cover the costs of using best quality completely disposable instruments to reduce the risk
of infection. A schedule of our more commonly used fees is displayed in the waiting room
and any other information relating to fees can be obtained from our receptionist staff. We
have installed a “tyro” payment system which allows for medicare rebates to be immediately
processed and returned to your account at the time of payment.
Home visits
Home visits are available in cases where the patient's medical condition precludes a surgery
visit. Wherever possible treatment is better rendered at the surgery as the range of facilities is
vastly better than that which is possible to take to the home. Early requests for home visits are
appreciated to enable better scheduling.
After Hours
Call all hours. The recorded message will give you the mobile number of the doctor on call.
There is no "locum service" on the peninsula so after hours calls are shared between the
doctors at Sorrento Medical. Consequently we would ask that after hours calls be restricted to
matters of an urgent nature.
Immunisations
Fiona Murrie is our immunisation provider and appointments can be made by ringing the
main surgery number. All immunisations will be bulk billed and reported to the Australian
Central Immunisation Register electronically.
Reminder letters
The staff here is very interested in all aspects of preventative medicine. Consequently we
send out reminders monthly for a variety of measures including but not limited to Pap smears
and immunisations. Please advise staff if you would like to be included in any recall registers.
Repeat prescriptions
Prescriptions for ongoing, regular medications may be obtained by phoning. The charge
is $10 and the script will be available the next working day. The availability of repeat
prescriptions is at the discretion of the treating doctor.
